Marist Schools…our Educational Mission
Marist Brothers are called as modern day Marcellin Champagnats to minister to young people so they will come to know and love Jesus Christ. Within today’s fast-paced, consumer-driven society, many young people are looking for a simpler, more noble set of values to capture their minds, hearts, and imagination. As Marists, we serve all youth and we are particularly dedicated to helping the most neglected of young people, those who are excluded from the mainstream of society and whose material poverty often hampers their intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth.
Marist Brothers create an atmosphere of growing and learning that is both challenging and enjoyable and cares about the whole person. Our academic teaching is well respected — an extraordinarily high percentage of students go on to further education. However, it is our spiritual values, our commitment to social justice and our Marist spirituality of presence that we believe makes the greatest difference in whom a young person will ultimately become.
Marist schools nourish mind, body and spirit. The careful attention to students and academics, along with a genuine feeling of warmth and purpose, set Marist schools apart.
The Marist Brothers’ educational mission comes from St. Marcellin Champagnat’s commitment that no child should have to forego an education because of his or her circumstances.
Today, our mission encompasses young people of all backgrounds, socio-economic situations and academic abilities. Every young person who walks through the doors of a Marist school is embraced with kindness, caring discipline and motivation to achieve. Our students study the full range of academic fields, but also learn to be socially involved, to reach out to others in need and develop a lifetime relationship with God. Students leave our schools prepared not only to further their studies, but to make a difference in the world.
Marist Brothers minister in 14 schools in the United States, carrying on the commitment of St. Marcellin Champagnat to provide educational and spiritual opportunities to all youth, regardless of personal circumstance. As Marist Brothers, we believe we have been called in a very specific and personal way to help all young people catch every glimpse of God’s presence in their lives. We challenge today’s youth to be all that they can be for the glory of God, in the footsteps of Mary and for the good of society.
In partnership with hundreds of lay people, Marist schools serve more than 11,000 students of all backgrounds, socio-economic situations and academic abilities. Our U.S. schools include:
