4th Annual Courtyard Art Exhibit at Champagnat Hall

Sunday, August 26

2:00-4:00 PM

Once again, Br. Gerard Cormier has organized an outdoor art exhibition to be held on Sunday, August 26 in the garth at Champagnat Hall. This is the fourth such exhibition Br. Cormier has organized since he joined the community in 2015.

Br. Gerard will be exhibiting over 50 acrylic/watercolor paintings, most of which were painted after his 90th birthday.  Most paintings are for sale and proceeds go toward the work being done with our elder Brothers at Champagnat Hall.  As in the past, Br. Gerard has invited other artists and photographers to join him in the exhibition. Brothers Ken Hogan, Steven Kappes, and Jim Norton will be displaying a select collection of their photographs.

This year’s exhibition will also include some new features that will bring this annual event into a new level of inspiration. Constance DelVecchio Maltese, a professional portrait artist and member of the prestigious Society of Illustrator Portrait Society of America and the Art Students League will join us to share her insights into portrait painting.  She is a board member of both the Queens Theatre in the Park and the Queens Council of the Arts, where she also serves as President.

Ms. DelVecchio Maltese will be exhibiting a series of Navigator Portraits she prepared for the Columbus Quincentenary.  She will also have on hand a series of commemorative plates done for the series that she is donating for art sale.

For the artist, or would-be artist, in each of us, those attending the exhibit can try their hand at producing a painting as they participate at a Paint Nite event in our own backyard.  Usually held in popular bars and restaurants, and wherever people gather, Paint Nite events have been held in over 1,500 locations across the US and Canada.  Paint Nite artists bring everything you’ll need: paint, brushes, and canvas.  You bring the inspiration!

Join us for the Fourth Annual Courtyard Art Exhibit at Champagnat Hall, August 26th, from 2:00-4:00 o’clock in the afternoon.  Refreshments will be served.  This year’s event will be different, but is purpose is always the same, a celebration of art!
