Archbishop Molloy Faculty Gathers for Retreat
Written by: Maureen Hagan, Director of Adult Formation
The faculty of Archbishop Molloy enjoyed a day of retreat at the Bishop Molloy retreat center in Jamaica, Queens on Monday, February 6. The retreat, created at last spring’s Sharing Our Mission, has already been shared by the faculties of many of our province schools, including Bishop Donahue, Christopher Columbus, Marist Bayonne, Mount St Michael, and Central Catholic. St Joseph Academy will be using the retreat on Feb. 23.
Opening with the LaValla Table Setting allowed everyone to pause and remember the symbols of our Marist life – bread, wine, violets, and the lantern, among others. Ed Cameron, Asst. Principal for Academics at Molloy, gave the first talk on the Annunciation. He beautifully shared how we can take the ordinary moments of our lives, realizing these moments involve the most important relationships we each have, and use them to say our own “Yes” to the experience of God. Following this, everyone had time for individual silent reflections, and then broke into small groups which proved to be fertile ground for discussion questions.
Next, the Community Talk was given by Nina Lokar, 1st year religion teacher at Mount St Michael. Many in the Molloy community know Nina from her 2 year volunteer experience at Esopus. Nina affirmed the faculty in their ability to encourage community growth and challenged them to take that gift further out into the Marist world.
The last presentation was a video of current students expressing their gratitude for the many blessings that the Molloy faculty has offered them. The students spoke of moments both inside and outside of the classroom, where they realized how the important lessons of life taught to them at Molloy will always be remembered and valued.
A hand washing ritual was part of the closing prayer, providing a chance to acknowledge and affirm one another as colleagues and companions in their Marist journey.
