Br. Ernest Beland entered the Marist Postulancy in 1957 and the Marist Novitiate in 1958. He professed his first vows on July 26, 1959. After completing a BA in English Literature at Marist College, he began his teaching career at St. Joseph High School in Trumble, CT.  He professed his Final Vows on July 26, 1964, and earned an MA in English Literature from New York University in 1968.

He also served as a teacher at Marist High School, Chicago, (1964 -67); St. Joseph High School in Lowell, MA, (1967-68), Marist High School, Eugene, OR, (1968-69),  Central Catholic High School, Lawrence, MA (1969-2012). Since 2012, he continues to serve at Central Catholic High School as a substitute teacher.
