Brother Alfred George, FMS
70th Jubilee as a Marist Brother
Br. Alfred George entered the Marist Juniorate in Tyngsboro, MA in 1943. After his postulancy year, he entered the Marist Novitiate in 1947. He professed his first vows on July 26, 1948. After completing a BA in history at Marist College, he began his teaching career at Central Catholic HS in Wheeling, WV. He professed his Final vows on June 30th 1953.
After teaching at Mt. St. Michael Academy, he began a long career of Missionary work in 1955. During his many years in the Philippines, he served in many roles including teacher, director, principal, Master of Scholastics, Master of Aspirants and Director of Campus Ministry. He professed the vow of Stability in 1965.
Upon returning to the USA in 1989, he worked for a number of years at Roselle Catholic High School. He returned briefly to the missions in 1999 to help re-found the Marist mission in Liberia, West Africa. He also spent 18 summers giving mission talks in Parishes around the USA to raise awareness and needed funds for various Marist Missions. Since his retirement in 2007, he remains the head chef of the Roselle Catholic Community in NJ.
