Family Day of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at Esopus
The Marist family enjoyed another beautiful fall day at Esopus on Saturday, Nov 17. Folks travelled from the New York and New Jersey schools for a day of remembrance and thanksgiving.
The day started with coffee and cider donuts in the courtyard, followed by prayer in the cemetery with all of us acknowledging and honoring the Brothers who have gone before us, who have inspired us to live the Marist charism. The group was able to wander and visit with those Brothers to whom they were most connected. Thank you to Br. Don Neary for helping direct everyone!
People then wrote the names of their own loved ones on a poster as we listened to the recently recorded “Litany of the Saints.” Prayer finished with a “Song of Thanksgiving” for the Brothers, for our loved ones, and for each other.
A delicious lunch of Chef Henry’s vegetable soup and hot turkey sandwiches, eaten out in the courtyard, was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Tim Hagan graciously acted as driver to give us a hayride around the property and part way down to the river. Gorgeous sunlight filtered through the trees the entire time!
For those who lingered, we had the campfire going, with Larry Kupfermann providing some music. Little Noah Carvalho Henn enjoyed the sing along!
Stay tuned for the December 5th and 6th retreat. For those who are local, you could also participate in Br. Dan’s virtual Advent retreat at Esopus on Saturday and stay for the in-person retreat on Sunday. Numbers will be limited due to COVID restrictions. Details coming soon!
