General Chapter Week 4 Recap
Friday September 29th
The morning session was led by our Marist Lay participants and focused on the newly created documents on Marist Laity.
The afternoon session gave participants an overview of the process for electing our new Superior General and Vicar General as well as a presentation on the work done for the revision of our Constitutions and the Rule of Life.
Saturday September 30th
Participants worked in 6 themes work groups for most of the morning session. A special farewell luncheon was also celebrated as a way of thanking our Lay Marists, who participated in this General Chapter and would be leaving.
Sunday October 1st
Today was a free day. Many choose to take a day trip to Medellin.
Monday October 2nd
The morning was spent with individuals in personal prayer time reflecting on the new draft of the Marist Constitutions.
The afternoon session allowed the opportunity for participants to reflect and raise names of candidates for the roles of Superior General and Vicar General
Tuesday October 3rd
The day was devoted to the election of our new Superior General and Vicar General. Brothers Ernesto Sánchez Barba of Western Mexico was elected as Superior General, and Luis Carlos Gutiérrez Blanco from the Province of Central América as Vicar General of the Institute of the Marist Brothers. The day concluded with a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by a festive celebration.
Wednesday October 4th
The six General Chapter work groups devoted the day to further developing their proposals and suggestions on their topics.
Thursday October 5th
The six General Chapter work groups finalized their proposals and began to present them to the Chapter. The General Chapter after reviewing a first draft also approved that the Institute would create a new Marist Document , the Rule of Life, to compliment the soon to be revised Marist Constitutions.
