Winter Sharing Our Call 1
February 2019 began the new year of formation programs, starting with Sharing Our Call 1 for those in Marist schools, and Discovering Our Call (a new program for those not in school ministries).
21 people attended SOC 1, with attendees coming from all 7 of the Marist USA schools (Roselle, St Joe’s, Pace, Marist Eugene – we’re looking for YOU next
time!). Brothers Hank Hammer, Steve Schlitte and Sean Sammon presented, along with Alice Miesnick, Matt Fallon, Jessica Pastore, and Ed Kennedy. Participants
had a chance to hear more about Marcellin Champagnat’s life and ministry, how he faced challenges, and how his devotion to Mary and Jesus shaped the charism
today (Br. Hank). There were also presentations on Marist Spirituality (Br. Sean), Marist Educators (Alice), and Marist Schools (Br. Steve), which helped participants to identify those qualities that make them Marist. Matt shared statistics about this generation that impact how we relate to the young people in our schools. Jess shared her own personal journey and how she came to realize that being Marist was a part of her identity. Ed took the group through an experiential exercise designed to get folks thinking about balance in our lives and how to keep all the balls in the air (and when to let some drop!).
Prayer rounded out the days together, including liturgy with Fr. LaMorte on Sunday. Of course, meals and socials were times to get better acquainted, to share work and life experiences, and generally share the Marist Family Spirit. Feedback was very positive and we look forward to the second SOC 1 at the end of March!
Remember – these experiences are open to lay people AND Brothers!
